Sean Ashley Tour D Autism of 2010 was a HUGE success!! I cannot express the gratitude that I feel for folks that give of their time to ride for our kids. Walking around that morning, I saw the return of a good number of folks, as well as new faces; this year almost 300 cyclists came to show their support of our organization. After getting packets and t shirts, cyclists were "christened" by sprinkles of bottled water and cheers by volunteers. Mike and Brian (great cycling friends) got the ride off to a staggered start pretty close to start time.
The ride went well-many learning moments for those of us organizing the ride. We've received lots of positive feedback from participants and volunteers. We cannot begin to thank you guys enough for your dedication.
I've heard many compliments about the ride-but one that stands out is the help the Sean Ashley crew at their rest stop gave to a worn out, exhausted, frustrated cyclist. As she was walking to the stop, the kids came to her with sharpies, asking her for her autograph on their t-shirts. 17 miles later, she comes to me at the finish line. She is hot, thirsty, hungry, and tired. As she relays this story to me, she adds that the requests she got for HER autograph was the stuff that got her to the finish. She said that it was right up there with the best moments of her life, as she hugs me and begins crying on my shoulder telling me that she has never felt so much for a ride.
